Places to grab a bite to eat in RVA with your furry best friend

There are tons of great places in RVA to grab a bite to eat with your pup! Here's a list of some of our favorites:

Crossroads Coffee & Ice Cream is so much more than just an awesome coffee shop (which it also is). They’re open 7 days a week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner! They have carefully selected beer and wine options and feature live music almost daily. You’ll find lots of great local products on the menu like Cupertino’s bagels and Rostov’s coffee. Don’t forget about the locally made ice cream! They have plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options and we highly recommend the Ultimate Grilled Cheese (panini, feta, cheddar, Swiss, American, sun dried tomato dressing, sliced tomato).

23rd & Main

23rd & Main has a huge outdoor patio that is perfect for bringing along your furry BFF. In fact, we’re pretty sure their Yappy Hour is one of the hottest canine social scenes in RVA. Their weekend brunch menu is on point with $14 mimosa pitchers, breakfast pizza, and Scottish eggs (two poached panko breaded deep fried eggs with prosciutto potato hash and hollandaise sauce). They also have delicious brick oven pizzas and their specialty cocktail menu is full of both classics and some creative drinks you won’t find elsewhere.

Checking out the delicious menu at @23rdandmain during Sunday brunch. #dietstartsmonday #rva

If you and your pup are looking for a sweet treat, Whisk should definitely be on your list. Their treats are delicious and totally adorable. Our favorites right now are their ice cream macarons (i.e. Peanut butter ice cream with pieces of chocolate chips cookies between two chocolate macaron shells)! The Parisian-style bakery also offers a variety of flaky croissants, fresh bread, locally-roasted coffee, wine, and mimosas. Grab fluffy and go!

Casa del Barco

The name says it all. Oh wait… It’s not spelled “BARK-o”? Nevermind. But it’s still totally pup-friendly! The food is amazing so be ready for lots of begging. It’s OK though, no one’s going to blame you for slipping your pup a chip or two (just leave off the dip because onions are a no-no for your pooch). Casa del Barco has all of your favorite authentic Mexican foods made with fresh ingredients and some fun twists. We’re looking at you, Crab Guacamole. The Casa Specialties like the Mushroom and Squash Fideos (sauteed oyster and portobello mushrooms, zucchini and squash noodles, pumpkin seed pesto, arugula, charred cherry tomatoes, and aged monterey jack cheese) and the Honey-Habanero Moonshine Shrimp (seared jumbo shrimp in Belle Isle Honey Habanero Moonshine glaze, creamy corn esquites, blistered shishito peppers, Mexican herbs) are absolutely fabulous. Plus you can take Fido on a nice walk along Canal Walk before or after you eat so it’s the perfect night out for you and them!

He wants the foods. #FrattyFranklin #FrankieJ #pitbullsofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #RVAdogs

Southern Railway Taphouse

Their concept is simple: Craft Beer. Craft Food. And they’ve mastered it. We recommend stopping in during Happy Hour for 1/2 price apps – Short Rub Sliders, Fresh-Baked Pretzel sticks with beer cheese and honey mustard, Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings with wasabi aioli and citrus soy dipping sauce. Or checking out their new Sunday brunch. We have our eye on the Breakfast Breads Basket that comes with a scone, mini muffin, croissant, cinnamon bun, pound cake, and a donut and the Shareable Poinsetta Mimosa (2 champagne bottles, 2 pints cranberry juice, 1/2 pint orange juice, a splash of grenadine, and slices of oranges and stawberries). Their patio isn’t just dog friendly. It’s also AWESOME. They have life-size Jenga and Connect Four. You play. Your pup plays. It’s a win-win.

Citizen Burger Bar

Citizen Burger Bar hails itself as a classic American burger joint with a focus on local ingredients. Their food is amazing and their dog-friendly patio area is one of the best around. There are always pups there so your bestie can meet lots of new doggo buds. You’ll love the burgers and if you’re willing to share, Fluffy will too. One of our favorites is The Executive – Timbercreek beef, pit-smoked pork belly, McClure swiss, black onion, fried farm egg, garlicaioli, truffled brioche.

Bottoms Up Pizza

There’s a reason Richmonders rave about Bottoms Up pizza. It’s because it’s delicious. And with their dog-friendly patio, your fur-baby is sure to agree too. You can’t go wrong with any pie from this delicious pizza joint. Your first choice is between red sauce and white sauce (or BBQ or brown mustard) and from there it only gets better. They have lots of interesting pizzas like the Rockafeller (smoked oysters, bacon, spinach, shredded parmesean) and the State Fair (Guldens brown mustard, sausage, caramelized onions, and roasted red peppers). They’re also vegan, gluten free, and low carb friendly with great options like Portabella Mushroom Pizzas. We’re getting hungry just thinking about it!
